How can I join in?
Dr. Wirt, I think just going to the YouCut site (http://www.republicanwhip.house.gov/youcut/) and doing the email sign-up in the upper right of the page is all you need to join.
But it looks like submitting your own ideas for spending cuts (http://www.republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut/YourIdea.htm) is what they’re really hoping you’ll do.

When I was a supply Sgt.(US ARMY) I found out that it took a long
time to receive repair parts for our trucks and jeeps.
Also they were very costly by using the Army Catalogs.
So we were given permission to type up a purchase order
and go to a local vender. This saved our Unit 2/3rds the cost.
Why do we have to spend so much ??? This would save the Tax
Payers Money!!!! I Retired from the Army Reserve 19 years ago.

Our congressman Bill Flores links to Cantor’s “YouCut” program near the bottom left of his http://flores.house.gov website. Click on that link and you will be invited to “review the options and vote on which spending cut you believe should be sponsored by the YouCut program.”
For giggles, let’s select 100% of the cuts that Cantor offers us:
1) $180 million over 10 years from the Corporation for Travel Promo;
2) $210 million over 10 years from the East-West Center;
3) $2.5 billion over 10 years from the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Program.
Cool! We did it! We selected $2.89 billion in cuts (over 10 years). Now, let’s compare that with the federal DEFICIT for fiscal year 2011 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_United_States_federal_budget), which is $1.65 trillion.
Amazing! $2.89 billion is only .175% of the 2011 deficit! This means that if we repeat the maximum “YouCut” option of $2.89 billion a total of 571 times, we will have retired the 2011 DEFICIT alone (assuming we maxed our cuts over 1 year instead of 10 years as prescribed by Cantor). I know! It’s easy to be mollified by the sound of cuts in the billions of dollars, but relative to the federal government’s multi-trillion dollar over-spending, it’s quite simply NOT ENOUGH!
